The rainy weather did not deter the Elmont community from coming together to celebrate Elmont Memorial High School’s homecoming on Sept. 23.
The Spartans hosted Manhasset Secondary School’s varsity football team. Though they played hard, the Spartans unfortunately lost the game with a score of 24-2.
During the halftime celebrations, which were held indoors in the gymnasium, the marching band performed. Then, Principal Marya Baker announced the winners of Spirit Week and the banner winners. For Spirit Week, the seventh grade class earned third place, the ninth grade class earned second place and the senior class earned first place. For the Junior High banners, the Class of 2029 earned third place, the Future Scientists of America club earned second place and Junior High Cheer earned first place. For the Senior High banners, the Art Honor Society and English Honor Society tied for third place, Rho Kappa earned second place and the Business Honor Society earned first place.
To conclude the halftime recognitions, Principal Baker introduced the homecoming court, naming Isaiah Davis and Aniela Bryan as this year’s homecoming royalty.
