Sewanhaka High School has named Isabelle Protopapas and Madison DeMaio as the valedictorian and salutatorian, respectively, of the Class of 2024.
Isabelle is regarded as a kind, hard-working student. Her academic achievements are evident through her enrollment in 10 Advanced Placement courses. Her success in these classes has earned her the title of AP Scholar with Distinction, as well as an AP Capstone Diploma. She is a member of the National English, National World Language, Tri-M Music and National Honor Societies. She displays leadership in multiple roles, including as officer of Model UN, editor-in-chief of the Chieftain, officer of Green Club, vice president of Senior High Orchestra and chair for Sewanhaka’s inter-district Model UN Conference. Her proficiency in Model UN has also earned her recognition as Distinguished Delegate at the 2022 Rutgers Model UN Conference. Additionally, she is a member of the district orchestra, chamber orchestra, musical pit orchestra, Reading Club, French Club and Class of 2024 board. Outside of school, Isabelle assists and participates in blood drives for the New York Blood Center through FCCLA, as well as partakes in numerous environmental cleanups with her work in Green Club and the National Honor Society.
Madison is known as a well-rounded student, with achievements in both academics, athletics and music. Her success in class is made apparent through her recognition as an AP Scholar with Honors and membership in the National English, National World Language and National honor societies. She is also a recipient of an AP Seminar and Research Certificate. Madison excels in athletics, playing on both the varsity softball and varsity volleyball teams. She has led her softball team as captain since 2018 and has been recognized as an All-County Athlete and one of Newsday’s Top 100 Softball Players of 2023. In 2022, she received a Scholar Athlete Award for varsity volleyball. She is a talented singer, earning recognition as a nominee for the Roger Rees Outstanding Performer in a Musical award. Additionally, she is a secretary of Reading Club, and a member of the Yearbook Club and Chess Club. Outside of school, she is a certified umpire through Umps Care Charities and a softball instructor for Bayville Little League.
