Three New Hyde Park Memorial’s student-artists have recently been honored for their achievements in art.
Isabella Chu was recognized as one of Newsday’s Scholar Artist Winners this school year. Being named a Scholar Artist reflects not only a student’s artistic abilities, but also their academic excellence and leadership qualities. Chu was nominated by art teacher Danielle Livoti.
Grace Garvey was named a winner in the Congressional Art Competition, hosted by Congressman Anthony D’Esposito and Supervisor Don Clavin. Garvey received a Citation for her artwork, “Have You Heard the News?”
Sudeeptha Shanmugam achieved a Best in Show recognition for her artwork in the Long Island’s Best: Young Artists at The Heckscher Museum of Art exhibition. Now in its 28th year, the juried exhibition offers high school students the opportunity to show their work in a museum. Shanmugam’s winning piece was called, “Pondering.”
