The district hosted its first board of education meeting of the school year, recognizing both students and staff for their recent accomplishments, on Sept. 24.
Superintendent of Schools Regina Agrusa commended two students for being selected as Scholar-Artist Merit Award winners by the Long Island Arts Alliance. H. Frank Carey High School student Elena Moryl was selected as a winner in the Visual Arts category, and New Hyde Park Memorial High School student Christine Wang (not in attendance) was selected as a winner in the Media Arts category.
Following the student recognitions, District Athletic Director Matt McLees was honored for being inducted into the Nassau County High School Athletics Hall of Fame. McLees is being formally recognized at an induction ceremony at the Crest Hollow County Club on Sept. 25.
Career and Technical Education Director Dr. Patrick Dunphy was recognized for being a New York State Association for Career and Technical Education Administrator of the Year.
