Sewanhaka Central High School District is proud to announce that students in its Career and Technical Education pre-engineering program have been recognized among 60 winning teams in the NASA TechRise Student Challenge. It is Sewanhaka’s second consecutive year being recognized as winners in the challenge.

According to NASA, this nationwide contest, which is administered by Future Engineers, is designed to engage students in technology, science and space exploration.

The students were challenged to design an experiment to test on a high-altitude balloon. They brainstormed various experiment ideas, planned their experiment’s design then submitted a proposal for review. Their project is titled, “Gravitational Acceleration at Increasing Altitudes (G.A.I.A.)”

Each winning team will receive $1,500 to build their experiments, a flight box in which to build it and an assigned spot to test their experiment on a NASA-sponsored balloon flight scheduled for this summer.
