LISC Awards

Elmont Science Research is proud to announce the following awards won by students competing in the Junior Division of Long Island Science Congress. The event was held in April at the Cradle of Aviation, and welcomed students in grades 7-9 throughout Long Island to present their scientific investigations. Elmont students earned the following awards at the award ceremony on June 11:

Kyra Hylton - High Honors Award, State Science Congress Qualifier, Green Planet Award ($50), Distinguished Ecology Project Award ($100) for her work investigating the ability of seaweed biochars to remediate zinc-contaminated water.

Christen Marescot and Shine Raj - Highest Honors Award, Director’s Award ($50 each), Mel Cowgill Award ($50 each) for their work evaluating the ability of insect frass to improve plant growth on Mars.

Muhammad Zain - Highest Honors Award, State Science Congress Qualifier, Distinguished Biology Project ($100) for his work investigating the ability of titanium to prevent bacterial growth.

Sabiq Khan and Paige Gorousingh - High Honors Award for their work investigating the impact of microplastics on aquatic plant growth.

Fahab Khan and Jose Sarmiento - Honors Award for their work investigating the impact of biotin on worm development in microgravity.
