Midterms Canceled
COVID-19 has certainly caused many “firsts” and “seconds” for all of us. Given the continued uncertainties we face, our communities have demonstrated an incredible amount of flexibility and understanding. The importance of face-to-face instruction has been a welcome relief for our students and staff this year. We remain steadfastly in favor of in-person instruction and learning whenever possible.
The current state of positive COVID-19 cases in New York State and Nassau County has created a unique circumstance for our students and teachers. As of December 21, 2021, the New York State Education Department has canceled the administration of all the January 2022 New York State High School Regents Exams in response to the ongoing impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. With a continued focus on the emotional and social health of our students, and in conjunction with our professional teaching staff, the Sewanhaka Central High School District is canceling all of the January 2022 midterm exams.
The school week of January 24th will now be a regular full week which will enable us to capture four more instructional days (January 25th - January 28th), and is now reflected on all school calendars on their respective websites. This will benefit each of our students as we conclude the 1st semester.
Thank you for all you have done and will continue to do as we work through these COVID-19 times.
Sincerely,
James J. Grossane, Ed.D.
Superintendent of Schools

Dear Sewanhaka Central District Families,
We have received our allotment of COVID-19 home test kits from New York State. The State has provided one CareStart COVID-19 Antigen Home Test with two test kits for each student in grades 7-12. According to the state, the expiration date of these rapid tests is January 31, 2022. However, the FDA has approved a 90-day extension of tests, and rapid tests that normally would have expired on January 31st can be used until the end of April.
The distribution of the test kits will be on Tuesday, January 4, 2022, from 3:30 PM to 6 PM. We ask that you come to your home school and report to the area listed below. You will be required to show ID upon arrival.
You will receive a home test for each child enrolled in our schools. Home tests for elementary school aged children will be distributed by your elementary school district.
Elmont Memorial - Large parking lot
Floral Park Memorial - Large parking lot
H. Frank Carey - enter at Goldenrod Avenue
New Hyde Park Memorial - large parking lot
Sewanhaka High School - main parking lot
Please note that these test kits are being provided as a resource only. There is no requirement to test, and these home kits cannot be used for clearance should your child be symptomatic or exposed.
Should you choose to use the home kit and your child tests positive, contact Perrotta Consulting at covid19@sewanhakaschools.org and/or 516-488-9891 to report the positive test.
Thank you for your cooperation and partnership.
Respectfully,
Dr. Grossane
