It was a night of celebration, as the district honored multiple student achievements during the board of education meeting on Oct. 24.
The meeting began with the recognition of the Class of 2024 valedictorians and salutatorians from all five school buildings. The students were introduced by their respective building principals, who shared details on the students’ academic and personal achievements. The honored students were Elmont Memorial High School valedictorian Yusef Lateef and salutatorian Danielle Sattaur, Floral Park Memorial High School valedictorian Maya Barravecchio and salutatorian Ayushi Das, H. Frank Carey High School valedictorian Michelle Zheng and salutatorian Grace Leimgruber, New Hyde Park Memorial High School valedictorian Aparna Shibu and salutatorian Nathaniel Park (not in attendance), and Sewanhaka High School valedictorian Isabelle Protopapas and salutatorian Madison DeMaio.
Following the recognitions of the valedictorians and salutatorians, Interim Superintendent Dr. Thomas P. Dolan continued the celebratory announcements. New Hyde Park Memorial High School student Isabella Chu was honored for receiving an Award of Distinction in the Visual Arts category in the Long Island Arts Alliance’s Scholar Artist Awards program; and Elmont Memorial High School Science Research student Gianna Marsh was honored for being invited to present at a poster session at the Geological Society of America 2023 Conference, held on Oct. 17.
