Schoolwide winners Liam Cavanagh and Fatima Naysa competed in the regional semifinal of the New York State Poetry Out Loud competition at the Walt Whitman Birthplace on Feb. 27. Liam and Naysa performed two poems each, competing against high school students from across Nassau County. Liam recited “When I Heard the Learn’d Astronomer” by Walt Whitman and “The Charge of the Light Brigade” by Alfred, Lord Tennyson. Fatima recited “A Poison Tree” by William Blake and “Breaking [News]” by Noor Hindi.
