Five eighth grade students from Mrs. Stone’s Intro to Science Research class were selected to represent NHP Memorial at the Middle School Regional Science Bowl, held at Brookhaven National Labs in Upton, NY, on Jan. 30.
Team NHP – composed of Riya Anand, Isabella Perez, Christine Ren, Vraj Shah and Ayden Su – competed against 19 other schools by answering questions in the areas of mathematics, chemistry, biology, earth science and physics. Though the team did not make the national competition, the students placed first in a timed puzzle box match. Teams were given 40 minutes to open a box attached to multiple locks that coincided with various brain teasers. Team NHP completed the challenge in less than 20 minutes and placed first overall, receiving prizes for their outstanding achievement! The students thoroughly enjoyed the competition and cannot wait to participate next year in the high school division!
