Students in Mr. Florko’s and Ms. Strohson’s forensic science classes

Mr. Florko’s and Ms. Strohson’s forensic science classes recently went on a field trip to Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory and took part in a DNA-themed lab. The students’ task was to introduce a green fluorescence gene into a harmless strand of bacterium E.coli. The procedure included plating bacterial colonies using pipettes, sterile inoculation tools and agar plates. They then packed up the plates and the next day saw the bacteria glow green!
