The Sewanhaka Central High School District Board of Education recognized two students during the meeting on March 22.
Sewanhaka High School senior Dillan Powell was commended for the heroic act he performed in January, as he assisted a fellow student who was struck by a car on Tulip Avenue. Powell, who is a member of the Stewart Manor Fire Department, jumped into action and immediately began giving first aid. He kept control of the situation until the school nurses arrived. He was able to assist the nurses and help give vital information to the police and EMTs from Floral Park when they came on the scene.
Additionally, Elmont Memorial High School student Precious Ademokun was recognized by the board for performing with the American Choral Directors Association as a member of the Eastern Region Gospel Honor Choir in February. Leading up to the performance, she rehearsed under the guidance of renowned educator and gospel composer Raymond Wise.
