On Dec. 7, over 40 students competed in the first ever school-wide Poetry Out Loud competition. A national program sponsored by the National Endowment for the Arts and the Poetry Foundation, Poetry Out Loud invites students to memorize, interpret and perform poems of their choice. Students are evaluated for their understanding of the poem, their physical presence, projection and accuracy. The two school-wide winners, Nayana Kabir and Amy Jigon, will advance to the regional semi-final, competing against students from all over Long Island. Winners from that round will then advance to the state and potentially the national competition. Congratulations to all of the participants, who inspired each other and their teachers with their performances.
