Forty students in grades 7 and 10 participated in the Long Island Language Arts Council's (LILAC) Kenneth F. Gambone Writing Contest this year. Participants had 40 minutes to write a response to the prompt Together We Are Stronger.” Additionally, they had to submit a piece previously written on any subject. Judged against the writing of students from across Long Island, two students were selected as winners. Sophomore Ariana Muhamad was awarded third place, and seventh grader Prisha Patel was awarded first place. Both were honored at LILAC's annual spring luncheon on May 17.
