New Hyde Park Memorial High School hosted a tree and bench dedication ceremony to honor retired staff member Bruce Kowal, who passed in February 2024, on June 11. Kowal’s family attended the ceremony, as well.
Kowal, who retired in 2019, served in the Sewanhaka Central High School District for more than 35 years. He was a school psychologist at New Hyde Park Memorial, and he worked with the district’s Life Skills students.
The Coffee Crew, a group of Life Skills students who serve coffee and pastries to students and staff every other Friday, raised the money for the bench and tree in Kowal’s memory.
Following the ceremony, the Coffee Crew served refreshments to Kowal’s family and the staff in attendance.
