It was a beautiful, sunny Saturday, as the New Hyde Park Memorial High School community gathered to celebrate school pride and sportsmanship during this year’s homecoming, on Oct. 19.
The day’s events kicked off with a lively parade down Jericho Turnpike, featuring the band, cheerleaders, Romanettes, Step Team, Twirlers, homecoming court and board game-themed class floats. Members of the American Legion Post 1089 and the New Hyde Park Fire Department also joined the procession.
Following the parade, the stands were filled with students and community members in blue and white to welcome the Gladiators onto the field for the homecoming game against Mepham High School. Despite playing hard, the Gladiators unfortunately lost with a score of 22-18.
During the halftime celebrations, awards for the class floats were presented, with the Best Overall Float Awards going to the Class of 2029 for the Junior High category and the Class of 2025 for the Senior High category. The crowd enjoyed energetic performances by the varsity cheerleaders, Romanettes, Step Team and Twirlers. Halftime concluded with the presentation of this year’s homecoming court, with Deborah Aderibigbe and Marco Valle being named as this year’s Royal Gladiators.
