The district honored the accomplishments of multiple student-athletes and a scholarship award winner during the board of education meeting on March 26.
Elmont Memorial High School student Ashely Fulton was recognized by Interim Superintendent Dr. Thomas Dolan and the board for breaking the record in the New York State and Federation Championship 300-meter dash. H. Frank Carey High School student Liam Sushko was recognized for being selected for the Bowling All-State Team and bowling a perfect game of 300, as well as being named as a Newsday High School Athlete of the Week.
Following Fulton and Sushko’s acknowledgements, Dr. Dolan commended the Elmont Memorial High School varsity basketball team, along with their coaches and manager, for winning the New York State Public High School Athletic Association’s 2024 championship.
To conclude the student recognitions, Elmont Memorial High School senior and valedictorian Yusef Lateef was honored for his selection as a 2024 Coca-Cola Scholar. Lateef, who is among 150 high school seniors nationwide chosen for this honor, will receive a $20,000 college scholarship.
