Floral Park Memorial High School had 62 students participate in the Martin J. Kelly Writing Contest, held annually by the Irish Cultural Society of the Garden City Area and sponsored by The H.W. Wilson Foundation.
This year’s contest tasked students with writing an essay in which they identified themselves through references to indicators or emblems of their heritage or interests.
Sophomore Michaela Catalano won first prize and will be honored at an awards ceremony on May 15. Honorable mentions were awarded to sophomores Mahak Ahmed, Isabella Czap, Giuliana DePaola, Samrah Faisal, Chelsey Rios and Samantha Tavolacci.
