Junior High and Senior High Mathletes from across the district

On March 4, Junior High and Senior High Mathletes from across the district came together for the third annual District Math Tournament.

Senior High Mathletes members competed in a Nassau County-led tournament, featuring problem sets from the league. Each school participated in a team-based contest, solving 10 challenging questions within 40 minutes. After an impressive display of mathematical skill, there was a three-way tie for first place between H. Frank Carey High School Team A, New Hyde Park Team A and New Hyde Park Team B!

Sewanhaka High School Team A secured second place, followed by Floral Park Memorial High School Team A in third, Elmont Memorial High School Team A in fourth, and Sewanhaka High School Team B in fifth.

Junior High Mathletes engaged in a two-round competition. In the first round, students competed by school, with New Hyde Park Memorial emerging as the district winners. In the second round, students were placed into mixed teams, collaborating with peers from different schools. The winners of this dynamic round were a group of mixed-school students:

Evan Jimenez from Elmont Memorial; Kaashif Islam, Joel Rai, and Daniel Gee from Floral Park Memorial; Ipsa Sedhai from Sewanhaka High School; and Alex Yang, Chloe Lee, and Grace Li from New Hyde Park Memorial.

The atmosphere was electric, filled with energy and enthusiasm, as students connected with their peers in a friendly yet competitive setting. Advisers played a crucial role in facilitating the event, providing support, offering pizza before the contest and distributing personalized pencils as a special keepsake. Their dedication and efforts truly made this a memorable, math-filled afternoon.
