H. Frank Carey High School students in the Class of 2022 and Class of 2023 competed in the Junior/Senior Challenge Night on March 3. Along with the athletic competitions, students received points for charitable contributions. This year, the junior and senior classes chose The Mighty Madison DIPG (Diffuse intrinsic pontine glioma) Research and Awareness Fund as their charity in memory of 9-year-old Madison Milio, who passed away from brain cancer in December 2021. Milio was the daughter of Kristen Milio, the chairperson of English at Carey.
The juniors and seniors competed in a coin war challenge to see which grade could bring in the most coins. Altogether, they raised $1,306 for DIPG research.
“This is amazing!” Milio said. “I am so impressed by the efforts put forth by the Classes of 2022 and 2023. Thank you so much for making this happen. Thank you for thinking of my baby and thank you for helping us fight DIPG.”
