On March 12, the district’s Senior Robotics Club had yet another strong performance at the FIRST Tech Challenge Long Island Championships. Organized by the School-Business Partnerships of Long Island, Inc. (SBPLI), the tournament was held at Syosset High School.
FIRST Tech Challenge teams design, build, program and operate robots in a head-to-head challenge in an alliance format. Sewanhaka’s “RoboPandas” were a part of the winning alliance - and posted some of the highest scores of the day, with students being awarded medals for their performance. Despite excellent results and a lot to be proud of during one of the winningest seasons they have had, the RoboPandas fell just one place short of advancing to the World Championships in Houston, Texas, this year.
The Sewanhaka RoboPandas, brought home multiple top awards in the prestigious competition, including the Connect Award, Second Place Think Award, and Second Place Inspire Award. The team plans to continue meeting during the spring to train their younger members and to introduce an excited community to different opportunities in robotics!
