Elmont Memorial High School has named Yusef Lateef and Danielle Sattaur as the valedictorian and salutatorian, respectively, of the Class of 2024.
Yusef is well-regarded as a model student who exemplifies leadership and excellence, both in and outside of the classroom. His academic achievements are apparent through his enrollment in rigorous courses and his selection as a semifinalist in the Coca-Cola Scholars Program. He was selected as one of 1,514 high school seniors from over 100,000 applicants nationwide due to his academic excellence, leadership, and service demonstrated in school and community activities. He started an organization in the community, Living Green, which focuses on the environment and sustainability. Yusef further displays his leadership skills through serving as president of Key Club, president of Science Honor Society, editor-in-chief of the school newspaper, treasurer for Future Business Leaders of America and secretary for Business Honor Society. Additionally, Yusef published a book on Amazon Kindle, “Medical Mayhem,” which focuses on the positives and negatives of the medical field from different angles.
Danielle is known throughout the building as being a driven and determined student, who takes on demanding courses. She is the recipient of the Bausch + Lomb Honorary Science Award, presented by the University of Rochester, for outstanding achievement in rigorous science and mathematics courses. She devotes her time to science research projects, such as participating in the Long Island Science Congress for research on tomato seeds that have been exposed to space. Among her other extracurriculars, Danielle serves as the tutoring coordinator for the Key Club, vice president of the SADD Club (Students Against Destructive Decisions), activities chair for the Art National Honor Society and represents her class in the Student Congress. Additionally, she is a talented athlete, serving as a dedicated team member on the varsity badminton and volleyball teams.
